National Trust Chairman Carl Simmons led the team on a visit to North & Middle Caicos last Saturday. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet the staff that help manage the heritage sites on behalf of the Turks and Caicos Islands and to see first hand what work is required. Wade's Green plantation was dry and hot but clearly the grounds were well kept and it was a very pleasant stroll around the ruined buildings. Recent renovations were inspected and many new ideas thrown around and noted. The drive across the island to Middle Caicos was met with a hearty lunch in the community center in Conch Bar courtesy of Kerrie Harvey; the Trust's long standing cave warden. Everyone was suitably impressed with the Conch Bar caves and most ventured further into their depths than they had previous explored. The raw nature of these caves were much applauded but some measures will need to be taken to ensure safety and well being for visitors and cave dwellers alike.
