Part of a National Park, Conch Bar Caves is the largest cave system open to visitors in the islands and one of the largest in the Caribbean. It is home to colonies of four species of bats.

Conch Bar Caves is located near the village of Conch Bar on Middle Caicos. This park protects 1.5mi/2.4k of underground caverns, one of the largest cave systems in the Caribbean region. Some chambers include small tidal lagoons and colonies of bats. The entire cave system host some impressive stalactites and stalagmites and other cave features.

This 'heritage site' consists of the Conch Bar Cave System itself and the above ground land that covers and surrounds it. The area includes Village Hill and several nearby ponds. It is a karst cave system with specialized cave fauna and flora including bats, crustaceans and isopods. The above ground area supports rare plant and animal populations. The caves have significant human history from the pre-Columbian past to the recent colonial times.

Self-driving directions: When you arrive on Middle Caicos from North Caicos, do not turn left towards the village of Conch Bar. Instead drive straight on and you will see the old airstrip on your right hand side and then the airport building on your left. Drive 1/4 mile past the airport along a dirt track and the cave entrance will be on your left.

What to bring: Shoes with grip (i.e. sneakers or TEVA type sandals but not flip flops), the cave floor is slippery. Do not wear a hat inside the caves as you will not be able to see the low ceiling overhead and will be more likely to bang your head.
